Feature of the month
State of the Art effort by UPTEC in form of www.investorfriend.com

Response to the recently launched site www.investorfriend.com shows that internet technology can provide neat and efficient solution to the financial security of investors in India.
With-in a fortnight of its launch the site has been hit by more than 1000 visitors, including Indian investors living in foreign countries, in a big way. The registered user database has already crossed the 400 mark.
The site has been developed by using the state of the art ASP technology with its latest features. It contains lots of new techniques of search like sortable output table, row select and multiple page quick reach mechanism, that would be first time seen on the Internet. This site contains two searchable databases of defaulter companies and Investor related issues in the parliament. For a common investor the site provides ready-to-use investment and loan related calculators, a detailed glossary of terms used in the investment- world and an inter-active forum. Its Investment calculators are innovative in design and they prove the client side processing power of the Internet Browsers.
The website was launched in the first week of September at India Habitat Center New-Delhi, by Shri Manohar Joshi, Speaker, Lok Sabha in a function presided over by Shri Shivraj V. Patil, Dy. Leader of Opposition, Lok Sabha. This site has been developed by UPTEC's Software Division for its client Midas Touch Investors Association.

IT-Personality of the Month

ITim Berners-Lee, the inventor of HTML at the particle physics lab of CERN, Switzerland, surely loves the art of weaving his own web. Son of mathematician parents, Tim had the right mix of genes to invent a revolutionary concept like the INTERNET, how we see it today. He founded the World Wide Web in 1989. Since then he has been receiving accolades from all corners of the world for his path breaking contribution. In 1995, he received an Honorary Golden Nica for Interactive Art from The Interactive Art Jury. It is the biggest prize to be won for computer art. The same year he received a Kilby Young Innovator Award and was a co-recipient of the ACM Software Systems Award.
Presently Tim is a member of the Laboratory for Computer Science (LCS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He directs the W3 Consortium (www.w3.org), an open forum of companies and organizations with the mission to realize the full potential of the web. Tim has achieved a lot in a short time. He is an inspiration for all those who dream to make it big in the field of computers. Way to go, Tim

Time For 3D Representation

Actuality Systems Inc Of USA will soon market its new 3-D spherical display technology termed as Perspecta 3D System.

The system produces an image that can change through the use of digital projection. In this case the screen is a rotating disk that is capable of producing light at any point that it passes through.

This facilitates one to get a real 3-D representation of the object to be viewed, from 3600 around the display, without the need for any special goggles.

The display itself illuminates a record 100 million volume pixels, or “voxels” using Actuality patented technologies, within a transparent Lexan dome.

Scientific and engineering communities already have uses ready for the product.

Shock Waves Tune Light

MIT researchers have used a computer simulation to show that sending shock waves through photonic crystals could lead to faster and cheaper telecommunications devices, and more efficient solar cells.

Photonic crystals contain periodic patterns that bend light so that only certain wavelengths can pass through. Researchers showed that when a shock wave moves through a photonic crystal, it temporarily changes the patterns in a way that induces a large Doppler shift and a bandwidth narrowing.

A shock wave can be produced physically: sound waves or electricity can produce shock-wave-like effects. The Doppler shift changes the frequency of lightwaves in a way similar to the familiar pitch change that happens in sound waves when a train goes by. The effect is strong enough that the colour of the lightwave changes visibly, and it can be used to efficiently convert light to frequencies useful for communications.

1. What is Egoboot?

2. Ever heard of The Invisible Web?

3. What is dot Net?

Tough Time For Mobile Thief's

Phonetrack, launched by Phone-track Africa Ltd, inserts identification marks, such as owner's photo-graphs and alternate phonenumbers into the mobile phones permanently.

This facility configures the handset's motherboard, making it hard to erase the photo and the alternative phone numbers.

Doing this would mean destroying the phone.

This would give a tough time to thieves selling stolen mobile phones.

Phonetrack Africa Ltd. is also working on a software that would enable it to block the handset in case of theft, by using the phone's serial number. Re-activation of the hand set will be possible after recovery.

IT Humour

Quality Control

This speaks a lot about the quality of Japanese products and their quality standards. They're still laughing about this at IBM.
Apparently the computer giant decided to have some parts manufactured in Japan as a trial project. In the specifications, they set out that they will accept three defective parts per 10,000 .
When the delivery came in there was an accompanying letter." We, Japanese people, had a hard time understanding North American business practices . But the three defective parts per 10,000 have been separately manufactured and have been included in the consignment.
Hope this pleases you. "

  2. 90 % of the Internet is not accessible using search engines. This portion of the Net is known as the Invisible Web . This information could potentially enhance the search process and make your searches more relevant, try it at www.Turbo10.com. Turbo10 promises a search engine that can scan the Invisible Net and produce better results.

  3. NET (dot net ) is a set of software technologies for connecting people , systems and devices. It is based on web services which are small, reusable, building block applications that allow users to connect with data and applications over a network. Rich interactive distributed applications can be developed which can be accessed from desktops to mobile devices.
